How My Health Journey Will Fuel Everything Else
Setting a goal, learning how to achieve it, finding the focus and applying the knowledge – this is how we succeed at ANYTHING.
At 50, I finally decided that I wanted to change my own health. I was overweight, too sluggish to do a lot, too out of shape to do the things I wanted to do, and I began to hate how I looked and felt. That feeling wasn’t just something that hit me at 50… it was something that had been burning for a long time, but I was finally going to do something about it.
Setting the Goal
The goal was not just to lose weight. The goal was to get myself into a better healthy position overall. That included losing weight, but also to find more energy, to get stronger, to find stamina, to look better and feel better about myself, and to take a positive step that would also help unlock my own sexual energy. In order to make this goal happen, I needed to take some sort of action. After all, a goal without effort and action is simply a dream.
Learning to How Achieve the Dream
The internet is full of “resources” about how to lose weight, get in shape and take on a diet. So many of these resources are skewed, either towards a specific system that is for sale, or towards a lot of generic information. In most cases, if you want to learn how to do this thing, you have to do a lot of research to find the information that actually applies to your goals. The roadmap is not already laid out, unless you want to pay for a system that someone else has already made. While that can be an effective way to shortcut the system, the challenge for me is that most of them fed like a fad of some sort. I needed something that fit me, and that fit all of my goals – not just one.
I had to learn about calories, especially in terms of what I needed to have for a specific weight point, but also how much to reduce so that I didn’t overdo it. I needed to learn about nutrients, so that I could make sure I was getting the right mix into my system and not starving my body of certain things it needed just to limit calories. I had to learn what supplements or aids would help me to achieve the goals I had, and not just buy something because of hyped claims. Everything I did, everything I chose… they needed to have a reason for being, and they needed to help me move towards my goals.
Finding the Focus and Applying the Knowledge
Once I had my goals in place, and I had the basis for my research, it was time to take action. I needed a game plan to put things into order, because again… a goal without action is simply a dream. This meant doing the work.
Implementing the workout strategy I had designed. Setting my times when I would eat, and what I would eat to maximize my results based on what I had learned. Tracking the results in a systematic way so that I knew I was on track with what I wanted to accomplish. And then… fucking doing it. Every day, doing exactly what I had taken the time to learn and making it happen.
The focus in the beginning was sheer determination, because the beginning is not fun. It actually hurt. My muscles would ache from the workouts, my stomach would grain because I was holding off until 10 am to eat, and I had to pee more than ever because I was drinking more water than ever. Basically, the beginning was tough.
Over time, the results began to show. Small results to start, but each week building on the last. The focus moved from sheer determination to seeing the power of the results. As time continued, the struggle began to wane. Eating the same shake in the morning was no longer boring… it was simple, efficient and allowed me to be consistent. Working out didn’t hurt nearly as much as my body got used to moving again. On and on, one item after the next became easier to do.
Success
So far in this journey, I have lost over 30 pounds. I have lost over 12% of my body weight. I can tie my shoes now without being out of breath. I can move more than I ever have. The results have been amazing. The key here is that while I have seen success, I have not quit. I keep going, working to better refine my understanding, implementation and goals to see even more success.
Now, To Move This in Other Areas of Life
This is simply one area of my life, but it has shown me that so many other areas of my life can benefit from the same principles. From money and debt, to relationships and more… Every single area of my life can be improved in this way. This success here is fueling a desire to set new goals, learn how to acheive them, put knowledge into action and create more success for my life.
I am just getting started. I will be documenting those efforts here, as a way to hopefully help you to unlock what’s next for you.
